Bloomington Edge Name New GM

The Bloomington Edge indoor football team is excited to announce the hiring of Charles Welde as their new General Manager.  The hire was effective February 1 st , and Mr. Welde has already assumed control of the organization’s day-to- day operations. “We are thrilled to add someone of Charles’ experience and talent to our front office. He has a unique blend of skill sets that is rarely found and much less available,” said team CEO Omar Khokhar. Charles has an eclectic background in athletics that includes on the field coaching, front office positions, and seven years of experience as a college professor.  Most recently he was the Offensive Coordinator and Recruiting Coordinator at Victor Valley College where the team compiled a record of 25-7 in Welde’s three year tenure including two conference championships.  Other resume highlights include the football team Program Coordinator at U.S. Grant High School in Oklahoma City, teaching positions at Oklahoma City Community College and College of the Canyons, and a stint with the Oklahoma Wranglers of the original AFL.
“When the opportunity to interview for the G.M. position with the Edge was presented to me I was intrigued.  After talking with Coach Ismail and team owner Dr. Khokhar I was as excited as I have been for any job I have interviewed for.  Within seven days from our first conversation I was in the car heading to Bloomington.”
Charles looks to bring his service style of leadership to the Edge, a style which not only fits perfectly with the team’s community first mentality, but should also serve him well as he mentors 20+ interns.  “I have had the chance to meet all of our interns and I was floored by the outstanding pool of talent we have assembled.”
Charles has a Sports Management Master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma and is a 3rd  generation Sooner.  His wife, Shawnn, is a school teacher, and they have two daughters: Brynn (12) and Raven (9).  Brynn attends a magnet school for performing arts and has performed at the Hard Rock Café in Las Vegas as well as the Plaza Hotel and Casino.  Raven has a passion for science and wants to be either a chemist or an inventor when she grows up, so she can re-
engineer the molecular structure of vegetables to make them taste like ice cream.
