The Bloomington Edge, Illinois’ only Professional Indoor Football team, clinched a spot in the playoffs on Saturday without even playing a game. Western Michigan continued their close game curse with a 44-41 loss to Omaha guaranteeing a top four finish in the division for the Edge. According to CIF league rules the top four teams from each division qualify for the post season, and the top two teams earn a home playoff game in the first round. With three games remaining in the regular season, Bloomington can finish anywhere from 1st to 4th so there is plenty of work left to be done.
“Making the playoffs was the goal from the first day of camp,” said offensive lineman Ray Krishock who is in his sixth season with the Edge. “We will continue to treat every game as a playoff game for the rest of the season. Our goal is to bring a championship to Bloomington.”
Wide Receiver Marcus Lewis, who, is currently tied for sixth in the CIF with 11 touchdowns this season, is also looking forward to competing for a championship ring. “I think us pulling short in the semifinals last year is all the motivation we need to get over the hump this season,” he added.
Running back Darrelynn Dunn, who is tied for 6th in the CIF with 12 rushing touchdowns, is excited for the continuation of the season but also cautious. “The goal is still to get better every day,” commented Dunn. “Even with clinching a playoff spot we are still highly focused on a conference championship and a home playoff game.”
The Bloomington Edge play the Salina Liberty on Saturday May 20th at 1p.m. at the Coliseum in downtown Bloomington.
